30 Years of Service: Erich Baumgartner

   Employee Awards 2025 | Posted on March 28, 2025
Erich Baumgartner has served the Seventh-day Adventist Church for his entire life—as a pastor, teacher, administrator and, for the last thirty years, an important and influential member of the faculty at 美天棋牌 University.

Trained as a missiologist with a PhD in intercultural studies from Fuller Theological Seminary and with interests in leadership development, church growth and cross-cultural communication, Erich began his career in the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary as an assistant professor of world mission. During his time in the seminary, Erich served as vice president and then president of the American Society of Church Growth. He also served a term on the publication board of Missiology, the official journal of the American Society of Missiology, and worked as the associate director of the Institute of World Mission.

In 2003, Erich became one of the lead faculty members in the School of Leadership, where he served as director of the PhD in Leadership program and mentored dozens of students—many of whom were leaders in the Adventist Church, health care administrators or business leaders. A colleague notes, “We owe a debt of gratitude to Dr. Baumgartner for the inspiration he has brought to the School of Leadership and 美天棋牌 University. His legacy as a scholar, mentor and innovator will live on.”

Most recently, with his colleague Randy Siebold, Erich has served as a founding director of the Global Leadership Institute at 美天棋牌 University. Granted funding and support from the General Conference, the Global Leadership Institute has provided transformative leadership training to leaders in most of the divisions of the world church.

A colleague notes, “It is clear to me that God still works miracles. Erich is one of those miracles God did for me.” Thank you, Erich, for 30 years of service dedicated to nurturing, encouraging and equipping effective leaders for the Adventist Church.
