These references highlight the career of one of our denomination&rsquo;s most productive church leaders, pastors and researchers. Dr. Sahlin, 76, passed away peacefully in Kettering, Ohio, April 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.</div> <div> &nbsp;</div> <div> Over more than 60 years in ministry with the Adventist church, Monte began at the Voice of Prophecy developing programs for new generations of radio listeners. Then he became the director of urban ministries in Los Angeles, California, Washington DC, and Boston, Massachusetts, followed by pastoring in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Worthington, Ohio.</div> <div> &nbsp;</div> <div> ...</div> <div> &nbsp;</div> <div> <div> Sahlin pioneered social research within the Adventist church and the use of survey data in the development of ministries and ministry tools. He directed more than 130 research projects over the last four decades. He authored twenty-six books and more than one hundred research reports and articles over his career. He served as an adjunct professor for 美天棋牌 University (who surprised him with an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree in 2023) and for the Tony Campolo Center for Ministry at Eastern University in Philadelphia. The family now had a son, in addition to daughters Joan, 15, and Karen (known by all as &ldquo;Kitty&rdquo;), 4. The family had moved into the new house they had built in Bay Minette, AL,&nbsp;merely three days earlier than Bruce&rsquo;s arrival.</div> <div> &nbsp;</div> <div> Bruce met the love of his life when he was 15. Bruce and a friend were playing in his yard when they noticed a neighbor girl classmate of theirs had a visitor at her house. Bruce said, &ldquo;let&rsquo;s go meet her,&rdquo; and they crossed the street to introduce themselves. When they returned to Bruce&rsquo;s yard about 20 minutes later, Bruce said to his friend &ldquo;I just met the girl I&rsquo;m going to marry.&rdquo; Bruce and Jan were married on June 12, 1971, after his sophomore year at Auburn University. Jan delayed her own education and worked as a secretary on campus so that Bruce could concentrate on his studies without having to take a part time job. When he graduated in 1973, they moved to Evanston, IL, where he enrolled at Northwestern University&rsquo;s MBA program. Upon his graduation, they moved to Kalamazoo, MI, where Bruce began work as a market analyst for the Upjohn pharmaceutical company.</div> <div> &nbsp;</div> <div> Bruce accepted a faculty position in the School of Business at 美天棋牌 University in 1978. He completed work on a PhD in marketing at Northwestern University in 1989, when he accepted a teaching position in the School of Business at Indiana University, South Bend. He served on the faculty at Indiana University from 1989 to 2008, when he returned to 美天棋牌 as the J. N. 美天棋牌 Endowed Chair of Marketing.</div> <div> &nbsp;</div> <div> Among his more than 100 scholarly and professional publications and presentations are sixteen books in marketing management, marketing research, marketing for religious organizations, consumer behavior and other marketing areas. He has been listed in Who&rsquo;s Who in Finance and Business, Who&rsquo;s Who in American Education, Who&rsquo;s Who in Business Higher Education, and Who&rsquo;s Who in America. He has been interviewed on National Public Radio, LifeTalk Radio, NBC, Hope Channel, and by numerous newspapers and magazines; he has also served as an expert witness to the Federal Trade Commission.</div> <div> &nbsp;</div> <div> Bruce served on the editorial review board of several scholarly journals and consulted with organizations in the pharmaceutical, food, high-tech, bio-medical and hospital industries as well as numerous religious organizations on marketing matters. Doctoral candidates and scholars on four continents contacted him regarding his research in the application of marketing to religious organizations and his groundbreaking work in marketing theory.</div> <div> &nbsp;</div> <div> Wrenn received numerous citations recognizing excellence in research (12 awards), teaching (4 awards) and service (2 awards). He served as a Subject Matter Expert in marketing to the American Management Association and a Marketing Mentor in the Harvard Business School&rsquo;s ManageMentor program. He was co-founder and editor of the Scriptural Foundations for Business Series published by the 美天棋牌 University Press.</div> <div> &nbsp;</div> <div> He was a long-time member of Pioneer Memorial Church in Berrien Springs. He dearly loved his God, wife and family, his golden retrievers, and a multitude of close friends. His family, friends and former students knew him as a warm, generous man with a quick wit and smile.</div> <div> &nbsp;</div> <div> He was preceded in death by his father (1992), mother (2011) and sister Kitty (2011). He was 91.</p> <p> He was born in Friendship Village, the sister village to Buxton on the East Coast of the Demerara River in Guyana, South America. Roy was the third child of Oscar McGarrell, a farmer and chairman of the Local Authority of the Buxton-Friendship Village District, and Irene McGarrell (nee Gill), a homemaker.</p> <p> He attended the Friendship Methodist School from kindergarten to sixth standard and the Georgetown Seventh-day Adventist School for the remainder of his elementary education. After a stint at Ray High School and earning his Teacher's Diploma from the Ministry of Education in 1955, he taught elementary school at the Enmore Government School from 1955 until 1959.</p> <p> As a young man, Roy was an active member and officer of the Buxton Seventh-day Adventist Church. He held several leadership roles and was invested as a Master Guide. As his relationship with God grew, so did his desire for more education. And so, in 1959, he enrolled at the University of the Southern Caribbean (USC), formerly Caribbean Union College, in Trinidad, to pursue an Associate of Arts in Theology.</p> <p> In 1962, he was ordained and credentialed as a minister of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. On June 25, 1962, he married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Martinborough. They wed at the Buxton Seventh-day Adventist Church, and three children were born into this union: Andr&eacute;, Fern, and Faith-Ann.</p> <p> After one year as principal of the Georgetown Seventh-day Adventist Elementary and Secondary Schools, he launched into fulfilling employment as a district pastor. In 1970, Roy returned to USC and became part of the first cohort of students in the newly introduced Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology. Upon completing the program in 1972, he returned to pastoral ministry in Guyana. From 1972 to 1976, he served as the Education and Stewardship Director of the Guyana Mission. In 1976, he was elected the first President of the newly established Guyana Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and the first native Guyanese in this role.</p> <p> In 1980, Roy McGarrell left Guyana to pursue graduate studies at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at 美天棋牌 University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. In this capacity, he oversaw six mission centers dedicated to outreach and education for Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, secular/post-Christian, and urban populations. He was a successful entrepreneur and will always be remembered for having a generous heart. Enoch was a dedicated father to his three girls. Born on March 24, 1938, in Centralia, Washington, Lillis's life focused on caring for family and serving others. Her many years of teaching piano students and sharing her gift of music left a lasting touch on those around her.</p> <div> Lillis attended Auburn Adventist Academy where she met the love of her life, Robert Kingman. She continued her education at Walla Walla College along with Robert and they were married on June 21, 1959. Graduating in 1960, she went on to receive a Masters of Music Education from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona.</div> <div> &nbsp;</div> <div> Lillis was the proud mother of four children, Roy Kingman (Dawn), Lorena Bidwell (Dan), Sharla Erich (Kevin), and Larry Kingman (Heather). She had 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, many of whom personally benefited from her patient lessons on the piano.<br /> <br /> <div> Throughout her life, Lillis shared her love for music as a piano teacher. Her gentle guidance and patient instruction left an indelible mark on countless students. She was not only their teacher but also their mentor and friend.<br /> <br /> Beyond her professional accomplishments, Lillis had a love for photography, capturing the world's beauty through her lens, often finding the extraordinary in the mundane. However, her love for her family and her God, remained her truest passion. His birth completed their family of five including older siblings Stanton and Zoe Ann.</p> <p> Much of his younger life was spent in the southwestern United States where his parents taught school in California, Arizona and Texas at various Seventh-Day Adventist schools.</p> <p> He attended Lodi Academy for his high school years and then Pacific Union College for his undergraduate studies, earning a degree in social work. He worked for a number of years as a clinical social worker, using his professional expertise to help countless other people through difficult times in their lives. He eventually furthered his studies, earning a PhD in sociology from Western Michigan University. He then stepped into academia, teaching sociology at both Pacific Union College and 美天棋牌 University. Eventually he moved into hospital administration and worked at Lakeland as the director of rehabilitation for many years. Later, he continued to work as a hospital administrator at both Foote Hospital and Sparrow Hospital before returning to his social work roots. He finally retired after working as a social worker once more at Lakeland and at Riverwood.<br /> ...</p> <p> Don passed away on July 13, 2024, at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Marjorie, his brother Stanton, and his sister Zoe.
