Peanut and Tree Nut Free Workplace

Before our daughter was diagnosed with a peanut allergy, I remember feeling sorry for other families who had to worry about allergies and thankful it was not us. We never realized the severity of them and how they can be life- threatening.

Since our daughter's diagnosis, we have become vigilant not only about creating a safe environment for her in which to grow and learn, but also educating others about food allergies.

One day it dawned upon us about her future and her first job. Will she be able to work at a grocery store, a movie theater, or a restaurant? Any of the typical jobs a teenager seeks may be unsafe. There is always a concern for kids and food allergies but not everyone is thinking of adults.

Therefore, we have decided to create a peanut and tree nut free bookstore.

Our Action Plan:
- We ask that our customers do not bring any food into the book store.
- All employees are not allowed to bring any peanut or tree nut ingredients in their food to work.
- Employees are only allowed to eat in our breakroom.
- An anaphylaxis emergency plan is communicated to staff and displayed on a public notice board.

It is our hope that we can create a safe environment for our all of our employees and every customer, both big and small.
